Koalas Around the World
This week’s Postcards come to us from Monica in Adelaide, who spotted this wonderfully international collection of koalas at Be Marsupial while visiting Melbourne. The St Kilda shop specialises in playful Australian gifts and souvenirs, with many of its designs illustrated in-house and given a distinctly local sense of humour. These koalas travel rather further afield, borrowing food, clothes, characters and traditions from countries around the world — which seemed too good an opportunity for a quiz to miss. Be Marsupial is at 74 Acland Street, St Kilda, Victoria 3182, Australia.
Have a look at each koala, follow the clues, and see how many places — or people — you can recognise before revealing the answer.

I’m dressed for tradition, carrying something fermented, and my hat is rather more elaborate than yours. Where am I?

I have a pretzel in one paw, a very large beer in the other, and absolutely no intention of counting calories.

My background is tiled, my snack is filled, and my drink is icy. I belong to Italy — but which island am I visiting?

I’m dressed for tradition, carrying sushi in one hand and a tiny tree in the other. Where am I?

My address is 221B Baker Street, London. I have a deerstalker, a pipe and a magnifying glass. Who am I?

I’m wearing tartan, carrying three pipes and making enough noise to wake a glen. Where am I?

I’ve brought chocolate, a cuckoo clock and a very practical hat. Which country am I visiting?

I work at the Tower of London, wear a rather magnificent red uniform, and tourists know me by a nickname involving beef. Who am I?

I’ve brought a bowler hat, a monocle, an umbrella and, naturally, a cup of tea. Which country am I visiting?

I’m on a Vespa, wearing the colours of the flag, and somehow I’ve still found a hand for gelato. Where am I?

I’m dressed for carnival, wearing enough feathers to frighten a peacock, and carrying a lime-filled drink. Which country am I visiting?

I was born on Corsica, crowned myself Emperor of the French, and left my mark on Europe from battlefields to law books. Who am I?

I’ve brought a baguette, some cheese and a beret. Which country am I visiting?

I gave the world the Rubik’s Cube, I take my salami seriously, and Monica has a family connection here. Which country am I visiting?
