“I am the Best!”

You can’t ask for better motivation than that.

I arrived at the sports grounds like I have been doing for the past two weeks, and for the first time there was someone else running there as well. I was surprised but also realised that I probably weren’t the only running around there. But with having a few cloudy and rainy days’ people probably decided not to go for a run. That’s why, I was alone mostly.

But a warm sunny morning seemed more inviting for a run. I plopped my earphones in and started listening to my “running for the hills” playlist. Mostly motivational and house music blaring in my ears. It makes me forget about the running but also helps to push me a little further each time.

I started running and then crossed paths with my “running buddy” the conversation was a short, brief and a friendly greeting, as follows:

“Good morning! How are you?” out of breath from the friendly man.

“Good morning! I am great thank you and yourself?” also slightly out of breath.

“I am the best! Thank you!” from the friendly man as he ran past.

Let me describe this man: when I parked my car he was running, he started earlier, I don’t know what time or how long he ran. He didn’t stop, he didn’t walk and he didn’t faint either. He is slightly taller than I am, maybe 1.65m, and a little on the heavy side, with a big stomach, like Santa Clause. He doesn’t have a beard but he does have the big, bright smile. This stood out the most against his dark brown skin. He was wearing a hat and sunglasses. But his smile and positivity was contagious!

He was tired, out of breath and slow, but still managed to smile and tell me he is the best. And I have to agree! His friendliness and determination became my motivation. When I felt like giving up or stopping his words repeated in my head “I am the best!” When my socks were busy eating away at my feet I heard his words again “I am the best!” I pushed myself with this to a 3.3km run!

And I still feel the positive effect of his words. Sometimes all we need to do is believe in ourselves. We need to believe that we are the best! We need to focus on doing our best, even when we feel like giving up. Be the best version of yourself and spread the positivity to others.

Keep believing that you are the best, no matter where you start and keep pushing forward!
